I am happy to return to the Mount Carmel Area Elementary School after a three-year administrative assignment at the MCA Junior/Senior High School. Prior to my administrative assignment, I taught in the elementary school for twenty-three years. My teaching experiences have spanned all grade levels, being certified in Early Childhood and Elementary Education. In addition, I hold a Reading Specialist Certificate along with my Administrative Certificate.
Being a lover of children’s books, I cannot resist the temptation to use one to introduce my philosophical perspective on the role of the principal. In Dr. Seuss’ book, Hooray for Diffendoofer Day, Mr. Lowe is an empowering principal who recognizes the crucial role his teachers have in cultivating the minds of their students. He is cognizant of the need for a healthy school climate, and his recognition of support staff portrays the value he places on staff cohesiveness.
Like Mr. Lowe, I envision a school of energetic, creative teachers who believe in the worth and dignity of each student…a place that celebrates diversity and fosters self-esteem. At Mount Carmel Area Elementary, I hope to create a nurturing, risk-free environment that embraces unorthodoxy balanced with sound pedagogical practices. I want the positive school climate of our school to be collectively embraced and well communicated. Finally, I yearn for a school that gets recognition not only for its AYP, but also for the character of the students that walk through its doors. I am humbled by the awesome task ahead of me, yet excited to share this journey with you.
