ACADEMICS

Mount Carmel Area has made a number of changes to their curriculum over the past number of years to give our students a better chance to compete in the ever-changing world today…

We have begun with the creation of a rigorous college and career-preparatory program for all students : We have also attempted to strengthen the academic infrastructure with a focus on increasing achievement for all students

We have instituted the creation of personalized learning environments with a focus on small learning communities and school counseling

We have provided teachers with up-to-date professional development in 21st century skills, specifically targeting data-driven instructional practices and meeting the needs of diverse learners

We have also begun to offer Advance Placement Courses in biology, calculus, English and history

We have also begun dual-enrollment courses in cooperation with Luzerne County Community College, including art, English composition, American history and principles of sociology

On the elementary level, we will be implementing a Pre-K Counts program in order to provide early learning experiences to prepare young children for kindergarten.

MCA will continue with its "Science: It's Elementary" program. It provides hands-on science material to students in grades K-6, Professional development and curriculum support is provided to all elementary teachers. Students will become scientists in the classroom with the addition of these curriculum materials.

Fortunately, state and federal grants have allowed most of these programs to be implemented. MCA needs your help in continuing these programs and providing the materials to make them work.
