Long famous for its Mounties and WKMC TV Studio, Mount Carmel Area has given hundreds of students the ability to express themselves through the arts. Choral music and Operettas have allowed students to "take the stage" on their way to becoming more well rounded.(more)
Through the 60's and 70's, the Mount Carmel Area Mounties brought recognition to our area as ambassadors for the coal region. The band, today, remains one of our most tremendous assets.
The Mount Carmel Area School District has the distinction of being the first high school in the United States to have its own cable casting station to provide educational and sports programming via television cable. Developed by George McFee, the station has broadcast live football games and other sporting events, school news, and closed circuit programs for the school district. It continues today, under the direction of David McFee, as the premier high school station in Pennsylvania.
The art program continues to support the prom and operettas in making them the blueprint for other programs in our area.
In order for the TV Studio to be able to compete for its spot on the airways, it will have to go totally digital over the next few years. The cost for this type of equipment is far greater than the amounts budgeted for the studio each year.
