General Information

ThinkBIG is an organization created in 2012 to help local pediatric cancer patients and their families receiving cancer treatment at the Janet Weis Children’s Hospital with the financial burdens associated with their cancer diagnosis. Mount Carmel Area teamed up with ThinkBIG in 2014 by hosting a 12-hour dance marathon event that is held every October in the Mount Carmel Area HS gymnasium. In just two short years, MCA has raised over $43,000 for this cause and the event itself continues to grow each year. Starting in January, student leaders hold fundraisers twice a month up until the day of the event, the total is then revealed at the end of the dance marathon showing the efforts of students, alumni and community members throughout the year. Fundraisers consist of collecting donations at local parades, holding alumni sports tournaments, bake sales, dances, gold sock football games and much more. MCA has also formed their own committee whose members consist of Mount Carmel Area alumni and community members. By doing so, the dance marathon has become more successful. Students in grades in K-12 can participate in the event that aims to inspire them to join the fight against pediatric cancer.
